Overview

The Occupational Health Nurse reports directly to the SVP of Downstream Manufacturing Group and indirectly to the Occupational Health Coordinator.  The successful candidate holds a valid nursing license in one of the following states: (Arkansas, Florida, Indiana, Nevada, Tennessee, Virginia) and current certification in CPR/AED from American Red Cross or AHA.

 

The position is full time Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with on-call required after hours for injury management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in treatment of injuries throughout the Downstream Manufacturing Group and referral to outside medical care as needed.
  • Case management for injured workers and facilitate return to work decisions
  • Coordinate medical surveillance with safety personnel for all employees including but not limited to annual audiograms, spirometry, vision screening and lead testing
  • Conduct new hire pre-employment drug and alcohol screening & coordinate medical examinations for employees in corporate offices
  • Administration of the Drug and Alcohol program according to company policy
  • Advise on Workers’ Compensation claims, as needed
  • Assist in Federal Labor Laws and ADA situations also utilize nurse to do video trainings especially for medical responders across the company
  • Maintain HIPPA compliant documentation
  • Assist with FMLA Administration
  • Drive increased health outcomes including reducing population health risks, managing and eliminating workplace health risks and supporting improved business outcomes through advancing employee health and wellbeing
  • Accountable for delivery of regional health metrics and outcomes
  • Identify all supplies required for the first aid clinics at each facility and assist safety personnel with procurement of supplies
  • Periodic auditing and validation that medical files at each location are maintained and meet the OSHA recordkeeping standard
  • Work closely with the Safety Coordinators at the division level to recognize hazards, prevent injury, and ergonomics development.
  • Actively seek licensure in all states in which Downstream Manufacturing operates

Qualifications

Required

• Active RN license in one of the states listed above
• 2 or more years hospital or clinic nursing experience
• Excellent assessment skills in a clinical setting
• Phlebotomy skills
• Current CPR/AED certification
• Travel, as needed (estimate 25% travel required with likely more needed initially)
• May not be related to another employee at the Steel Dynamics Downstream Manufacturing Group. (The definition of relative in this requirement is any person who is related by blood or marriage, or whose relationship with the employee is similar to that of persons who are related by blood or marriage.)

Preferred

• 3 or more years of experience in occupational nursing or emergency nursing and/or clinic experience
• 3 or more years of experience in a manufacturing, industrial, and/or occupational environment
• Working knowledge of regulatory areas (ADA, OSHA, FMLA, Workers’ Compensation)
• CPR/AED Instructor
• Health coaching/certification
• Certified Occupational Health Nurse
