Brief Description:  The Lab Metallurgist is responsible for ensuring the safe, quality, and reliable operation of the metallurgical lab.  The lab contains equipment to perform mechanical testing (tensile testing and hardness), along with equipment to perform metallurgical analysis (sample prep, optical microscope, and SEM).  This position would oversee procedures and scheduling of equipment and testing, supervise lab technicians, and communicate with department metallurgists and process operations.

Job Duites/Responsibilities: 

• Promote and maintain safe work environment
• Supervise lab technicians
• Maintain calibrations and operations of lab equipment
• Work with department metallurgists for proper procedures and scheduling of lab
• Run SEM/Optical microscopes for various projects, including product development, process improvement, and claims analysis
• Coordinate ISO and IATF activities as required for the lab

Experience:  

Required: 

• B.S. degree or equivalent in metallurgy, materials science, or related engineering field
• Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Must be authorized to work in the United States

Preferred: 

• M.S. degree in metallurgy, materials science, or related engineering field
• Experience in supervision or management
• Experience with SEM/Optical Microscopy
• Experience in steel industry
