We are currently seeking a Payroll and Benefits Specialist for the Human Resources Department at the Corporate Office. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the accounting and administration of the company’s benefit programs and performing advanced payroll functions. This position includes frequent interaction with the divisional payroll departments regarding benefit and payroll issues. The position will report to the Manager of Payroll.
Payroll Responsibilities:
· Process multi-state, corporate payrolls;
· Process voluntary and involuntary deductions such as levies and garnishments;
· Maintain employee payroll records;
· Preparing accounting transactions, verifying proper accounts are affected and accruals are accurate;
· Act as liaison with the divisional payroll clerks to respond to technical questions as well as troubleshoot payroll processing issues;
· Maintain confidentiality of employee information;
· Perform other duties as required.
Benefit Responsibilities:
· Assist in the administration of employee benefits programs such as the profit sharing and retirement savings plan, health and dental plan, life and disability plans, family medical leave, cafeteria plan, stock plans, etc.;
· Administer company HIPAA privacy and security policies as appropriate;
· Present employee benefit topics at employee meetings, company picnics and other company events;
· Process new hire enrollments, terminations and changes;
· Perform E-Verify on corporate new hires and act as divisional back-up;
· Perform other duties as required.
· BA/BS degree in Accounting, a related field or equivalent technical training. CPP designation preferred;
· Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in benefits, payroll or a combination thereof;
· Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. Comfortable consolidating multiple sets of data;
· Experience working with UKG and/or Dimension systems a plus;
· Experience using vendor administrative software, including data entry and reporting, preferred;
· Working knowledge of accounting principles, auditing concepts and controls and payroll taxes;
· Effective written and verbal communication skills;
· Ability to use sound judgment and initiative;
· Self-starter with ability to work with minimal supervision and multi-task;
· May not be related to another employee of Steel Dynamics, Inc. or any of its subsidiaries. The definition of relative in this requirement is any person who is related by blood or marriage, or whose relationship with the employee is similar to that of persons who are related by blood or marriage.
