Overview

Responsible for assisting in the accounting and administration of the company’s benefit programs and performing payroll functions.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately perform payroll processing and related duties for weekly and monthly paycheck distribution.
  • Prepare accounting transactions, verifying proper accounts are affected and accruals are accurate.
  • Prepare payroll tax payments for local, state, and federal payroll tax authorities.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee information.
  • Administer company HIPAA privacy and security policies.
  • Process voluntary and involuntary deductions such as levies and garnishments.
  • Maintain Employee Payroll Records.
  • Assist in the administration of employee benefit programs.
  • Assist in the presentation of employee benefits topics at employee meetings.
  • Process new hire enrollments, terminations and changes as needed.
  • Perform E-Verify on new hires as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associates/BA/BS degree in accounting, a related field or equivalent technical training. 
  • 2 years’ experience working in benefits, payroll, accounting, or a combination thereof.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-starter with ability to multi-task.
  • Flexibility to work extra hours and weekends, as needed.
  • May not be related to another employee of Steel Dynamics Roanoke Bar Division. The definition of relative in this requirement is any person who is related by blood or marriage, or whose relationship with the employee is similar.

Preferred:

 

  • Experience working with Ultimate Software system.
