Technician for physical metallurgy laboratory to support product development, continuous improvement and quality initiatives. Retrieve samples and conduct sample preparation for subsequent metallurgical analyses and communicate results to laboratory coordinator and/or mill metallurgical staff.

• Support metallurgical laboratory analyses of steel products and associated processes
• Maintain laboratory safety, laboratory equipment and calibration to appropriate standards
• Disseminate metallurgical analysis knowledge withing metallurgical laboratories
• Support projects pertinent to new products, productivity & continuous improvement
• Support safety initiatives throughout the mill
• Assist departmental metallurgists with generation and dissemination of laboratory results
• Support mill production trials with departmental metallurgists and quality staff
• Assist product non-conformance analyses with technical service colleagues
• Communicate analysis results and suggestions to operations for continuous improvement

Preferred Skills:

• 2+ years experience in manufacturing environment
• Degree in technical discipline
• Knowledge of laboratory sampling practices
• Practical experience with powered tools and/or fabrication
• Experience with metallurgical sample preparation
• Experience in steel product development, rolling and/or coating operations
• Knowledge of ASTM, SAE, VDA, API, ISO and IATF standards
