Overview

We are seeking a Human Resources Policy Coordinator to join our Human Resources Department at the Corporate Office. This role is responsible for: Maintaining the SDI Employee Handbook and the Management Handbook; Supporting divisions and HQ’s staff with securing foreign person work visas & transferring foreign based SDI employees into U.S. SDI positions; Serve as the lead point of contact for SDI Relocation program. The successful candidate will work closely with all corporate staff and division Payroll/Benefits/HR representatives, outside legal counsel and SDI relocation vendor, to address technical questions, trouble-shoot issues, and provide associated training at all levels within the organization. This position reports to the Senior Equity and Compensation Analyst.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain Document control and relevance of the SDI Employee Handbook;
  • Maintain Document Control and relevance of the SDI Management Handbook;
  • Interface with outside legal counsel and USCIS to support foreign person work visa procurement;
  • Coordinate and collaborate with corporate legal and other functional areas, to draft and articulate company guidelines and policies, maintain leased employee agreements, and enable federal compliance in processes related to Affirmative Action Planning and Government Contracting;
  • Act as liaison with the divisional Payroll/Benefits/HR representatives to respond to technical questions and troubleshoot issues related to policy, work visas, and employee relocation;
  • Main interface with SDI relocation vendor (SIRVA);
  • Provide oversight of retention and controlled destruction of all corporate HR stored files;
  • Maintain SDI Veterans program through maintenance of the Veteran page on the SDI Website and encouragement of reporting and documentation processes;
  • Work collaboratively with the Vice President, HR and Legal counsel to resolve employee issues;
  • Provide local and on the ground assistance during merger and acquisition processes;
  • Present training at monthly HR training calls as needed;
  • Assist Vice President, HR with HQ’s building renovation impacts on workforce and maintenance of orderly and professional workspaces.  
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in related field, or equivalent technical training;
  • Minimum of 4 years' Human Resources experience;
  • Ability to build and deliver training in assigned areas of expertise;
  • Working knowledge of work visas for foreign persons;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to use sound judgment and initiative;
  • Self-starter with ability to work with minimal supervision and multi-task;
  • Experience working with UKG and/or Dimensions systems a plus;
  • Experience with near daily interface with third party vendor;
  • Occasional overnight travel;
  • Previous experience working with SIRVA a plus;
  • SHRM SCP designation a plus;
  • U.S. Military Veteran a plus;
  • May not be related to another employee of Steel Dynamics, Inc. or any of its subsidiaries.  The definition of relative in this requirement is “any person who is related by blood or marriage, or whose relationship with the employee is similar to that of persons who are related by blood or marriage”.
