The Payroll/Benefits Specialist is responsible for end-to-end payroll processing and benefits administration, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and responsive employee support. This role serves as a key divisional point of contact for payroll and benefits questions, actively engaged with local management and corporate partners to administer company policies and deliver a positive employee experience.

• Accurately perform payroll processing and related duties for weekly and monthly paycheck distribution
• Ensure confidentiality of sensitive employee and company information
• Administer company HIPAA privacy and security policies
• Support open enrollment and employee benefits education
• Coordinate job postings and monitor applicant status to support efficient recruiting workflows
• Guide new hires through onboarding and orientation
• Regularly engage with employees on payroll/benefits-related questions
• Other duties as assigned

• Associates/BA/BS degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 2-5+ years’ experience in payroll processing and/or benefits administration
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Self-starter with ability to multi-task
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
• May not be related to another employee of Steel Dynamics Roanoke Bar Division. The definition of relative in this requirement is any person who is related by blood or marriage, or whose relationship with the employee is similar.

Preferred:

• Experience working with payroll/applicant tracking systems (UKG, iCIMS, etc.)
• Professional payroll/HR certification (e.g., PHR, SHRM-CP)
