Overview

Mechanical Engineer for Cold Mill Finishing

Responsibilities

Safety & Leadership

  • Identify and eliminate safety hazards through design, maintenance, and procedural improvements. 
  • Lead by example to reinforce SDI’s safety culture.
  • Support all components of the Take Control of Safety initiative.
  • Supervise and support mechanical maintenance personnel in daily, down day, and outage

Maintenance & Reliability

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve mechanical issues across all line equipment.
  • Lead root cause failure analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and improve preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategies to increase reliability and uptime.

Planning & Maintenance Execution

  • Plan and coordinate maintenance activities, down days, and outages, including leading planning meetings.
  • Work directly with the Maintenance Coordinator to prioritize and execute work, define job scope, and allocate resources.
  • Align maintenance activities with production needs and equipment criticality.
  • Own and manage monthly maintenance budget, driving cost control.
  • Coordinate and direct contractor work during maintenance activities and outages. Holding accountability for safety, quality, and execution.

Engineering & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance, reduce downtime, and lower maintenance costs.
  • Design and implement mechanical upgrades, retrofits, and process improvements.
  • Utilize IBA data and field observations to drive continuous improvement initiatives. Capital Projects & Execution
  • Lead Capital projects from concept through commissioning, including scope development, budgeting, justification, and scheduling.
  • Develop projects from concepts through commissioning, including development, budgeting, justification, and scheduling.
  • Manage contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders throughout all phases of the project.
  • Oversee installation, startup, and commissioning to ensure system meet performance and safety expectations.
  • Track project costs and schedule to ensure delivery on time and within budget.
  • Identify and execute high – impact projects that improve safety, reliability, and production throughout.

Qualifications

Required

 

  • 4 - year Engineering or Engineering Technology degree
